But before Julius Caesar, the New Year was celebrated by the ancient Babylonians over 4000 years ago. When there was equal sunlight and darkness late in March, they would celebrate the new year - Vernal Equinox.
That's March, not January!

Julius Caesar consulted with Astronomers and Mathematicians about the Roman calendar because it's calendar fell out of sync with the sun. So he introduced the Julian calendar.
Julius Caesar made January 1st as the first day of the new year. In honor of Janus, the Roman god of beginnings.

- Create Stations at Home! Shoes goes here, jackets hang there, clothes go in the drawers, not on the sofas! Guilty.
